DeSantis signs law requiring license to drive a golf cart

More regulation. Golf carts now have statewide age requirements for operation.

The new legislation, (HB 949) bans young drivers from operating golf carts on “certain roadways” unless they have driver’s licenses or learner’s permits.

Sen. Erin Grall sponsored the legislation to replace language in current law, which exempts golf cart drivers from license requirements at all.

Golf carts are common in areas like Viera, Bayside Lakes, and Barefoot Bay in Brevard County. Violations would result in noncriminal traffic infractions.

The Florida Sheriff’s Association supports the legislation which goes into effect October 1.
