Remembered for his spirit, his contagious smile, and beautiful voice, Brevard Sheriff Deputy John Bevins passed away last night.

Friends and family flooded social media with comments of shock, disbelief, but also fond memories of how he positively impacted their lives.

The Starbucks inside Melbourne Square Mall is now closed, with its signage wrapped in black plastic, its windows covered in paper, and a letter from the company taped to the front window.In the letter addressed to customers, Starbucks said it made "the very difficult decision" this week to close the location. The company thanked customers for the memories and community built at the store and said it is working closely to support its employees, known as partners, through the transition. Customers are directed to nearby Starbucks locations through the company's app.The letter does not give a reason for the closure.The store had been open for nearly 20 years. Brian Cavins, the location's first manager, marked the closing in a Facebook post, calling it "a bittersweet day." Cavins said he was there when the space was cleared out as a Barnie's Coffee & Tea, then returned a few months later to open it as a Starbucks. It was his first store as a manager and the first team he built.According to Cavins, employees are transitioning to new home stores. Victory Casino Cruises has furloughed all of its employees as the Port Canaveral casino ship's extended dry dock drags on with no return date.The furloughs were confirmed by longtime employee Pete Lynch, who spent 15 years with the company overseeing events, entertainment, marketing and social media, and became known to many guests as "Promo Pete."In a public Facebook post, Lynch said the company was forced to furlough its entire staff last week, himself included, because the ship's time in dry dock was extended. He wrote that there is still hope Victory may return, possibly with a new ship, but that the timing and the company's future are currently unknown.Lynch addressed his coworkers directly, saying he was wishing the best to his fellow Victory family members "who are in the same boat right now."Victory Casino Cruises posted an update to customers three days ago, signed by Captain Tim, stating that Victory I is undergoing an extended dry dock for maintenance and is temporarily not operating. The company said additional necessary work has lengthened the ship's time out of service.According to the company, its casino hosts and reservations desk will be unavailable until operations resume, and it is not accepting online or phone reservations. Any paid reservations or deposits will be refunded.
