Rep. Plasencia files Marina Evacuations bill prohibiting vessels remaining in marinas during hurricane

Representative Plasenica “Coach P” has filed HB 223 which prohibits vessels under specified weight from remaining in certain marinas deemed unsuitable for refuge during hurricane after issuance of hurricane watch; requires specified persons to remove vessels upon failure of vessel owners or operators to remove such vessels; provides that such persons may charge reasonable removal fee & are not liable for damages resulting from such removal; provides that owners or operators of certain vessels may be subject to specified fines.

The bill already has an identical matching Senate Bill SB 578, filed by State Senator Tom Wright.

This bill will help to reduce the number of derelict vessels that litter the waterways after significant storms.
