Student Injured After Electrical Incident at Golfview Elementary Magnet School

Rockledge, FL — On Thursday afternoon, a routine school day at Golfview Elementary Magnet School was interrupted by an alarming incident involving a classroom electrical outlet.

At approximately 1:50 p.m. on February 27, 2025, School Resource Officer Ashley Holmes noticed smoke coming from an electrical outlet inside one of the classrooms. Officer Holmes immediately called for assistance, prompting a swift response from Rockledge’s Department of Public Safety.

Firefighters and police officers arrived on scene, quickly securing the area and rendering the outlet safe. A thorough inspection of the school revealed no additional threats to the safety of students and staff.

According to initial reports, the smoke was caused by metal being either inserted into or removed from the electrical outlet. One student sustained minor injuries during the incident. Emergency responders treated the student at the scene before releasing them to a parent.

The City of Rockledge commended the quick action of both public safety personnel and Brevard County Public Schools staff for ensuring the safety of all students while the situation was being addressed.

The incident remains under investigation to determine whether the actions leading to the smoke were accidental or intentional. School officials have not yet announced if any disciplinary measures will be taken.

Golfview Elementary parents are encouraged to speak with their children about the dangers of tampering with electrical outlets and the importance of reporting any unsafe behavior to school staff immediately.
