55-year-old cyclist killed when he turned into oncoming traffic on Hibiscus

Update 12/13 2:50pm: The original release stated that victim was a male. Today the identity of the victim was released and she is identified as Amy Bosworth of Melbourne.

A 55-year-old woman was fatally struck while cycling in Melbourne on Thursday, according to police. The incident occurred around happened around 3:10 p.m. on Hibiscus Boulevard at Broadband Drive.

The woman was riding a bike west on the sidewalk along Hibiscus when he turned south and into oncoming traffic in front of a Subaru SUV, which hit her. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, a 63-year-old woman from Palm Bay remained on-site and is cooperating with the investigation. There is no evidence of alcohol or drugs invovled at this time.

Hibiscus was closed down for several hours as the police conducted their investigation. Many workers from the surrounding businesses were directed to alternative roads as they attempted to leave work at 5pm.
