According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the incident occurred at approximately 4:25 a.m. on I-95 at mile marker 178 in Melbourne, Brevard County.

Preliminary evidence indicates that a 2011 Mazda 3 was traveling southbound in the outside lane when, for reasons still under investigation, the driver lost control of the vehicle. The car veered off the roadway to the left, struck a guardrail, and overturned. The impact caused the driver to be ejected from the vehicle.
