If you spot a spirited squad of cheerleaders in teal and red storming through the streets of Chicago this October, do not worry. This is one story where the villains are the heroes.

The RunDisney Villains Take Chicago team is made up of runners from across the country who share one goal: to help end cancer. They have traded villain costumes for pom-poms and bold team colors, bringing energy and excitement to every mile of training and fundraising. The team is part of the American Cancer Society’s Chicago Marathon program, and together they are on track to raise nearly $200,000, making them one of the largest and most successful charity teams in ACS marathon history.

“Our theme reminds us that cancer is the real villain,” says one team captain. “We might look playful, but we are running for something much bigger than ourselves.”

That something bigger is funding for life-saving cancer research and patient support services such as free rides to treatment, lodging for families, and a 24/7 helpline for anyone who needs it. For many of the runners, the cause is personal. Every mile is dedicated to loved ones lost, survivors, and those still in the fight.

The Villains have also put their own creative twist on fundraising, and their biggest fundraiser yet is underway. They are raffling off a weekend stay at a deluxe Disney resort. Supporters can join the fun by choosing a favorite Disney villain, donating exactly $23.19 as a sly nod to Monsters, Inc. fans, and waiting for the winner to be announced on September 29. Every single entry helps bring the team closer to their goal and gives donors the chance at a truly magical getaway.

On October 12, the Villains will line up with tens of thousands of runners at the Chicago Marathon, clad in teal and red and cheering louder than anyone else on the course. For them, the true finish line is a future where cancer no longer has the power to touch so many lives.

This time, the villains are out to save the day.
