Universal Orlando Guest Dies from Blunt Trauma after riding Epic Universe’s Stardust Racers

A 32-year-old man, identified as Kevin Rodriguez Zavala, died after riding the new Stardust Racers roller coaster at Universal Orlando’s Epic Universe.

The Orange-Osceola Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed he suffered “multiple blunt impact injuries” and ruled the death an accident.

According to officials, Zavala became unresponsive after the ride Wednesday night and was later pronounced dead at the hospital. The attraction has since been closed pending investigation.

Universal issued a statement:

“We are devastated by this event and extend our sincerest sympathies to the guest’s loved ones. We are fully committed to cooperating with this ongoing investigation.”

The Stardust Racers is one of Epic Universe’s most talked-about new attractions, reaching speeds up to 62 mph and climbing 133 feet, with a 5,000-foot track. The park has only been open for less than four months.

Orange County Sheriff’s Office is continuing the investigation.
