🚨 Devastating Floods in Texas Highlight Dangers of NWS Cuts 🚨Heartbreaking news from Texas: the catastrophic flooding in Kerr County, claiming 24–27 lives, caught many by surprise due to an inaccurate National Weather Service (NWS) forecast. At a press conference, Texas officials pointed to the NWS’s failure to predict the 10–15 inches of rain that overwhelmed the Guadalupe River. Why? Nearly 600 staff cuts to NOAA and the NWS this year, equivalent to 15 years of reductions have slashed critical resources like weather balloon launches and 24/7 forecasting operations. These cuts likely played a major role in the lack of accurate predictions, leaving communities vulnerable.With hurricane season in full swing, these same cuts could weaken our ability to prepare for storms.
