A convicted felon is being held without bond after Brevard County Sheriff's deputies say he tried to force his way into a woman's car while carrying a revolver wrapped in a shirt.According to Sheriff Wayne Ivey, the woman was sitting in her vehicle when a man, later identified as Jeremy Graves, opened her driver's door, tried to get in, and yelled at her to move over. As she yelled back, she noticed a shirt in his hand partially concealing a firearm.The victim yelled at him again and Graves walked away. She called for help, and when East Precinct deputies arrived in the area, they spotted Graves walking down the street. Deputies say he ran from them on foot and threw the shirt as he fled.Deputies quickly caught Graves and recovered the shirt, which had a revolver wrapped inside it. Investigators say Graves is a convicted felon and is prohibited from possessing a firearm.Graves was booked into the Brevard County Jail on charges of attempted armed carjacking, armed burglary of an occupied conveyance, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and resisting arrest without violence. He is being held with no bond.The victim was not injured. A Brevard County judge has ruled against the Brevard County School Board in its court fight over the Melissa Calhoun arbitration award.The district went to court to strike one part of the ruling: the arbitrator's finding that letters of reprimand for Brevard teachers require "just cause." Circuit Judge Curt Jacobus denied that request Tuesday and confirmed the award in full.That finding affects every teacher in the district, not just Calhoun.The district says it disagrees with the decision and that it "prevailed on the central issues." The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday allowed President Trump's administration to keep deporting migrants to countries other than their own while the justices decide whether the policy is legal, according to the Associated Press.The court agreed to hear arguments on whether migrants must be given a meaningful opportunity to object before being sent to countries where they have no ties. Tuesday's order temporarily blocks an appeals court ruling against the policy.Federal attorneys told the court the lower-court decision forced the cancellation of a deportation flight carrying roughly 70 people headed to three countries. The justices had also allowed the flights to temporarily continue when the case first reached them last year.The administration has deported about 25,000 people to more than two dozen countries under a series of agreements, many of them not made public, including deals with Liberia and Guyana. Most have been sent to Mexico.Administration officials say the program targets people with final deportation orders who cannot be returned to their home countries or whose home countries refuse to take them back, including people with criminal convictions. Federal attorneys said the receiving governments provide assurances that deportees will not be persecuted or tortured.Attorneys for the migrants say some have been jailed in countries they had never heard of before arriving, and some face safety risks that leave them little choice but to return to the countries they fled.
