The victim pulled into the Dollar Tree at 3333 Dairy Rd., and the Ford followed. The victim told police he heard Smith chamber a round, then saw him raise and point a tan Glock-style handgun with an extended magazine. Police say Smith chased the victim around the vehicles while saying he was going to shoot everyone. A witness gave a sworn statement matching the victim's account.Smith told police the weapon was an airsoft gun that an unknown male had placed in his truck. He said the group had harassed his sister earlier that night, that he was surrounded by about eight people in the parking lot, and that he held the airsoft gun pointed at the ground and never threatened anyone.Federal court records in Raymond Smith's smuggling case described a minor assisting with the boat during the operation. **Should surviving an execution end a death sentence?**Christa Pike, the only woman on Tennessee's death row, survived the state's attempt to execute her Wednesday night. Pike, 50, remained alive and snoring loudly after being given two doses of pentobarbital, her attorneys and other witnesses said. She was subsequently taken to a hospital.Pike was sentenced to death for killing Colleen Slemmer in 1995 when both of them were teenagers. Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee has halted executions for the year and ordered "a comprehensive, third-party review to determine exactly what occurred." Pike's failed execution was Tennessee's second this year.So we want to hear from you. If someone survives an execution carried out by the state, should that be the end of their sentence? Or should the state be allowed to try again?Tell us where you stand in the comments.#DeathPenalty #Tennessee #CriminalJustice ...

Today we interviewed with U.S. Senate candidate Angie Nixon following her appearance at a disability event in Melbourne. We asked her to respond to Vice President J.D. Vance's remarks at a rally in Lakeland yesterday, where he said that when Nixon calls herself a socialist, "the right response is to say, 'Then get the hell out of here. You don't belong in America.'"We also asked how she plans to win over voters in Republican strongholds like Brevard County as a Democrat.Watch her full responses in the video. #SpaceCoast ...

TOW YARD SHOOTING — SUSPECT IN CUSTODYThe Martin County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating a shooting that occurred shortly after 1 p.m. this afternoon at a towing facility on SE Cove Road.A woman from Miami arrived at the tow yard to claim a vehicle that had been towed there earlier in the day. Shortly after, individuals in another vehicle arrived at the facility, and the two parties became involved in an altercation. The Miami woman then retrieved a firearm and fired multiple shots at the other individuals before getting into a vehicle and fleeing the area.Because the tow yard is located about a half-mile from Murray Middle School, the Sheriff’s Office immediately activated an active-shooter response and placed the school on lockout as deputies responded to the scene.Road Patrol deputies, Aviation, detectives and other available units quickly began searching for the suspect vehicle. Deputies located the vehicle traveling on Cove Road near U.S. 1 and attempted a traffic stop. The driver fled, and deputies subsequently performed a PIT maneuver, bringing the vehicle to a stop. Additional units moved in and successfully immobilized the vehicle before the driver could flee again. The individuals who were targeted by the gunfire had left the area before deputies arrived. At this time, it is unclear whether any of them were struck by gunfire. The female driver was taken into custody and transported to the Sheriff’s Office, where detectives are currently questioning her.We will provide additional information as it becomes available. ...
