All Brevard Public Schools will remain closed Wednesday, November 4. This marks our third day of closures following this week's severe flooding throughout our county. We know how difficult these closures are for families, and we did not make this decision lightly. While progress is being made, several challenges remain that prevent us from safely reopening schools:Water service: A major water main break in the Melbourne area has placed nearly 30 schools under a boil water notice. Further disruptions could affect restrooms and air conditioning.Road conditions: Flooded and closed roads across the county continue to impact safe travel and school bus routes.School buildings: Several campuses experienced flooding and require additional inspections and cleanup before students can return.Staffing: Many employees live in heavily impacted areas and cannot safely travel to work. We must ensure adequate staffing to safely operate schools.Tomorrow, district crews will continue inspections, repairs and cleanup efforts to prepare campuses for reopening. All after-school activities are canceled, with the exception of high school varsity sports, which will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. We will provide an update on Thursday's schedule as soon as possible. We understand the challenges another day of closure creates for families and appreciate your continued patience and support. Please stay off flooded roads and stay safe ...
