Stone Middle School Science Teacher arrested on Child Exploitation Warrant

The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office has arrested 40-year-old Joseph Komjathy of Melbourne, after an arrest warrant was issued in Indian River County charging him with five counts of Distribution of Harmful Material to a Minor and one count of Unlawful Use of a Two-way Communication Device. Mr. Komjathy was taken into custody yesterday evening, without incident, at his residence by agents from the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office SORT Unit. Mr. Komjathy is employed by Brevard Public Schools as a teacher at Stone Middle School in Melbourne.

Joseph is a Science teacher, and is married to another educator. They have 2 daughters and live in Viera.

Emails Reveal Brevard Schools Was Warned Several Times Before Promethean Board Killed 5-Year-Old "It cost around 6k to move to new room" the Teacher Was ToldTwo days before a 120-pound Promethean board fell and killed 5-year-old Bellamy Dawkins-Morris at Riviera Elementary, his teacher put her concerns in writing."The kids keep slamming it up and down and I'm getting kinda worried," she wrote to the school's tech support on Monday, Oct. 5, asking if there was a way to lock the board in place.Eight minutes later, she got her answer. Tech support said he could tighten the tension springs "again," but didn't think it would "hold up." He wrote that he had already tried to get the board removed, but because it was in an ESE classroom, removal needed district and administrative approval and would cost around $6,000.On Wednesday, the board came down on Bellamy.The Space Coast Rocket has obtained email exchanges. Staff say the teacher had just returned from maternity leave that Monday, and that the substitute covering her class had also asked for the board to be fixed.
