TWIN BROTHERS ARRESTED ON SEXUAL ABUSE CHARGES

(Washington County, FL, January 14, 2025)-Sheriff Kevin Crews announces the arrest of twin brothers now facing felony charges after allegations of sexual abuse were reported.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office began an investigation following reports alleging that Donald Ray Hawkins and Ronald Gene Hawkins sexually abused the victims on numerous occasions over a period of several years.

Once investigators interviewed the victims and reviewed evidence in the case, arrest warrants were issued for the arrest of the brothers.

Yesterday, Donald Hawkins, 67, who resides in Cottondale, FL was arrested in Washington County and is being held on the charges of sexual assault on a victim under the age of 12.

Ronald Hawkins, 67, who resides in Merritt Island, FL, was also arrested in Brevard County, FL. Hawkins is awaiting extradition back to Washington County to face the charges of lewd and lascivious behavior on a victim less than 12 years old.

Your license plate frame could get you arrested and is most likely illegal now in the “free state of Florida.”A new Florida law dramatically changes what is considered an “obstructed” tag, and the penalties are steep. Under HB 253, any frame or cover that blocks even a tiny portion of the tag design, border, numbers, letters, the word Florida, or the registration sticker is now illegal.This includes:• Decorative plate frames• Thin trims• Dealer frames• Clear or tinted covers• Anything placed around the plate that interferes with visibility or recordingKnowingly driving with an obscured tag becomes a second degree misdemeanor, punishable by up to 60 days in jail or a 500 dollar fine.The law goes even further than that. It creates a new crime for owning or selling “license plate obscuring devices,” and using one during a crime becomes a third degree felony.Many people use plate frames without knowing they cover part of the border or design.
