Launch Credit Union CEO Joe Mirachi is retiring after a 40-year banking career, including the last 14 years leading the Merritt Island based credit union. The announcement came Monday, one day before Launch legally becomes part of Tampa’s Suncoast Credit Union.

Launch says the credit union grew from $600 million to $1.5 billion in assets during Mirachi’s tenure, and its staff doubled from 150 to 300 employees. He has also worked as an adjunct professor and earned a second master’s degree this year.

“Progress, not perfection.” “Technology is just a tool.” “Be a lifelong learner.” Chief Administrative Officer Jane Schropp said those phrases became part of the credit union’s shared language, along with the dad jokes Mirachi used to open all-staff meetings.

Launch members approved the Suncoast merger last week, with about 79.5 percent of those who voted backing the deal during a 45-day voting period. Legal Day 1 is Tuesday, September 1. Launch will operate as “Launch, a Branch of Suncoast Credit Union” until full integration, expected in summer 2027. Suncoast President and CEO Kevin Johnson will lead the combined organization, which will hold more than $22 billion in assets and serve over 1.5 million members across 96 Florida branches.

Launch, chartered in 1963 to serve the space industry, has more than 86,000 members and 17 branches in Brevard and Volusia counties. No branch closures or job cuts are planned, and Suncoast has committed $5 million to nonprofits and school districts on the Space Coast.
