Earlier this morning, law enforcement took swift action to arrest a student from Kennedy Middle School in connection with making violent threats against the school. According to an official statement from the school’s principal, Angela Owens, the arrest was prompted by a serious threat directed toward the school and its community.

In a message sent to Kennedy families, Principal Owens emphasized the severity of the situation, stressing that the safety of students and staff is the school’s highest priority. “It’s absolutely unacceptable for students to threaten or even allude to a threat towards our school or community,” Owens stated, urging parents to speak with their children about the seriousness of making such threats.

Brevard school superintendent, Dr. Mark Rendell said in a meeting this week that “we won’t be putting kids mugshots on TV” like what’s being done in other counties in Florida for these same charges.

There have been a slew of threats and arrests since the deadly school shooting several weeks ago in Georgia. Viral social media threats about future shooting have been popping up almost daily in Brevard and elsewhere.

The school has reiterated that any form of threatening language or behavior will lead to serious consequences. While the nature of the threat has not been fully disclosed, the prompt involvement of law enforcement underlines the school’s commitment to ensuring a safe environment for all.

“We appreciate your support and understanding,” Owens added. “Our commitment to student safety remains unwavering. We will continue to take all necessary measures to protect our students and uphold the trust you have placed in us.”
