Merritt Island Native Brings Growing Clothing Swap Charity Home for Summer Event

MERRITT ISLAND, FL – A fast-growing community charity founded by a Merritt Island native is returning home for a special summer event focused on giving back, sustainability, and spreading kindness—one outfit at a time.

Swap & Support is a nonprofit initiative launched by Breanne Wolfenbarger… and it has grown into a multi-state movement. The mission is simple: reduce clothing waste, support local communities, and create a welcoming space for people to give and receive—no strings attached.

“I started Swap & Support after seeing how many clothes were going to waste while others couldn’t afford the basics,” said Wolfenbarger. “I wanted to create something simple and welcoming, where people could give, receive, and feel good doing it.”

Now operating across Florida and Alabama, Swap & Support hosts five clothing swaps and one book swap annually, helping thousands of items find new homes rather than ending up in landfills. The charity also donates overflow clothing to other local nonprofits and shelters.

Merritt Island holds special significance to the organization, as Wolfenbarger’s hometown. The charity now hosts two seasonal swaps a year on the island—one in summer and one in winter.

This summer’s swap will take place on Saturday, June 21, and is free and open to the public. Participants are invited to bring gently used clothing to exchange or simply come take what they need. No donation is required to participate.

The event is proudly sponsored by Urban Defense Advisory Group, a local business specializing in emergency preparedness, Stop the Bleed training, and self-defense education. Swap & Support encourages attendees and the community to support local businesses making a difference.

“Our last Merritt Island swap helped us surpass 1,000 items swapped in 2024,” said Wolfenbarger. “We’re hoping for another amazing turnout—and even more opportunities to give back.”
