Armed Gas Station Robbery Suspect Captured

A suspect involved in a recent armed robbery at a local gas station has been apprehended by the West Melbourne Police Department. The arrest was announced today by Lieutenant Graig Erenstoft in an official news release.

The incident occurred on June 22nd at approximately 1415 hours. Patrol units responded to a report of an armed robbery at a gas station located at 1115 S. Wickham Road. According to the police, a male suspect, who had attempted to conceal his identity with his clothing, entered the store and brandished a firearm. The suspect demanded money from the cash register and was last seen fleeing the scene in a dark-colored sedan. Witnesses described the suspect as a male Hispanic.

Following the robbery, the Patrol and Criminal Investigations Division worked diligently to identify the suspect. Investigators developed a lead on a potential suspect vehicle, which was later located in Melbourne. A male subject connected to the vehicle was identified as a person of interest.

On the morning of June 25th, at approximately 0830 hours, investigators located the individual driving the suspect vehicle. A traffic stop was initiated, and the suspect was taken into custody without incident.

The suspect, identified as 34-year-old Victor Ruiz Jr. of Melbourne, FL, has been charged with two counts of robbery with a firearm and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Ruiz was subsequently transported to the Brevard County Jail, where he is awaiting a bond hearing.

Lieutenant Erenstoft praised the efforts of the officers involved in the investigation and apprehension of the suspect. “The quick and coordinated response by our patrol units and the thorough investigation by our Criminal Investigations Division were instrumental in bringing this dangerous individual to justice,” he stated.
