In tonight’s sky, a fascinating celestial event is about to take place. A rare occurrence where a full moon, supermoon, and blue moon will all come together, creating a stunning spectacle. This unique phenomenon won’t happen again for over a decade.
Super blue moons are unique because they don’t happen often. You’ll have to wait for 14 years after this one to witness it again in January and March 2037.
These events are a bit uncommon. About 25% of all full moons are supermoons, making them stand out. And blue moons are even rarer, appearing only around 3% of the time. The time between these super blue moons is unpredictable, with an average of 10 years and a maximum of 20 years.
This upcoming full moon in August is traditionally known as the sturgeon moon, named after the sturgeon fish species. In the past, this moon would illuminate the waters of the Great Lakes, where the sturgeon fish used to be abundant.
