Walt Ehmer, the President and CEO of Waffle House and a prominent member of the Atlanta Police Foundation’s board of trustees, has passed away at the age of 58. The Atlanta Police Foundation confirmed his death on Sunday.

Ehmer began his career with Waffle House in 1992 and quickly ascended the ranks, becoming President in 2002. He later assumed the roles of CEO and Chairman, leading the company through significant growth. Ehmer’s impact extended beyond the restaurant chain, with Georgia Tech University, his alma mater, noting his remarkable contributions to both the institution and the wider community.

Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens praised Ehmer’s leadership, dedication, and warmth, saying in a statement, “His leadership, dedication, and warmth touched the lives of many, both within the Waffle House family and beyond. He leaves behind a remarkable legacy.”

The Waffle House board of directors announced that Ehmer passed away after a prolonged illness. “He will be greatly missed by his entire Waffle House family,” the board said in a statement.

In addition to his leadership at Waffle House, Ehmer was deeply involved with Georgia Tech. He chaired the Georgia Tech Alumni Association Board of Trustees from 2012 to 2013 and served on the Georgia Tech Foundation Board and the Georgia Tech Advisory Board.
