Man who stole flag from Disabled Veterans facility arrested

A man has been arrested in connection to crimes that occurred at a local veteran’s facility.

On Thursday, April 4, 2024, Titusville Police responded to a report of the theft of an American Flag and damage to property at the Disabled American Veterans (DVA)Titusville Chapter 109 facility located at 435 North Singleton Avenue.

Jonathan Wayne Smyth, 42, of Mims, was charged with Burglary, Criminal Mischief and Petit Theft

The preliminary investigation revealed the suspect accessed the DVA’s property that same evening after business hours, cut down and then stole the facility’s American Flag, along with damaging an outdoor grill. 

Investigative evidence led Detectives to the identity of the suspect, who was subsequently located on Friday, March 5, 2024 at approximately 3 PM and taken into custody without incident.

Jonathan Wayne Smyth was booked into the Brevard County Jail and is currently being held without bond.
