Man who stole flag from Disabled Veterans facility arrested

A man has been arrested in connection to crimes that occurred at a local veteran’s facility.

On Thursday, April 4, 2024, Titusville Police responded to a report of the theft of an American Flag and damage to property at the Disabled American Veterans (DVA)Titusville Chapter 109 facility located at 435 North Singleton Avenue.

Jonathan Wayne Smyth, 42, of Mims, was charged with Burglary, Criminal Mischief and Petit Theft.

The preliminary investigation revealed the suspect accessed the DVA’s property that same evening after business hours, cut down and then stole the facility’s American Flag, along with damaging an outdoor grill.

Investigative evidence led Detectives to the identity of the suspect, who was subsequently located on Friday, March 5, 2024 at approximately 3 PM and taken into custody without incident.

Jonathan Wayne Smyth was booked into the Brevard County Jail and is currently being held without bond.

🚨 Laura Forczyk Arrested Again After Recently Regaining Access to Children; 1-year-old Drowns🚨Laura Forczyk, who was arrested again yesterday after recently being granted renewed access to her children by the court. According to a law enforcement source familiar with the investigation, officers responded yesterday after her one year old was found unresponsive in a backyard pool. The child was pulled from the water by officers and CPR was performed before being transported to Arnold Palmer Hospital. The doctor there reports that miraculously the child was awake and alert.This latest arrest comes while a prior criminal case against both Laura Forczyk and her husband, Nathan Forczyk, remains active in Brevard County.According to Palm Bay Police and court records, the couple was originally arrested in September 2025 after officers responding alongside the Department of Children and Families discovered multiple children allegedly locked inside separate bedrooms without access to food, water, containing only a child-sized potty training toilet. They have 6 children with one on the way.Investigators reported the home was in severe disrepair, with exposed electrical wiring and strong odors of urine and feces throughout the residence. Police said the living conditions were unsafe and hazardous to the children’s health.
