Teen airlifted after being struck by propeller in Sebastian boating accident

Published on

Yesterday near Sebastian Yacht Club, a 16-year-old was seriously injured in a boating accident.

According to the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office, an accident involving a small vessel with a 16-year-old female and a 17-year-old male resulted in one of them being airlifted to Holmes Regional Hospital with serious injuries.

The wake from another boat struck the small boat the teens were on. The force of the wake caused a 16-year-old girl to be thrown overboard and into the path of their boat’s propeller, leading to severe injuries. The male was not injured.

Witnesses quickly responded, and provided immediate aid. The 16-year-old was airlifted from near Captain Hirams to Holmes Regional Medical Center, where she is being treated.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission are the lead in this investigation.
