57-year-old man hit by 2 semis in apparent suicide on I-95 this morning

Northbound lanes of I-95 at mile marker 190 by Pineda Causeway were closed this morning after a pedestrian was struck and killed by 2 semi-trucks according to officials.

Investigators say that a 57-year-old man from New York parked his car on the side of the road and deliberately stepped out in front of the oncoming vehicles which struck and killed him instantly just before 8am this morning.

Witnesses reported seeing one of the trucks try and swerve into the middle lane to avoid him. FHP says he continued to walk into the center lane and was struck by the first truck. The impact sent him into the path of the second truck. Neither truck driver was injured.

BREAKING: School Board Chair Matt Susin has called a special meeting for 9 a.m. Tuesday to shield the superintendent who just quit on Brevard Public Schools in the middle of the school year among pending investigations.History repeating itself with Dr. Rendell.On Oct. 27, the School Board rated Mark Rendell 93.96 percent and handed him a $10,000 bonus. Nine days later, Eastern Florida State College announced he was leaving his over $300k job to take a vice president job that was never advertised. There is no public record he gave the board the notice his contract requires before he went looking. There's already a regular board meeting scheduled where this could have been added to the agenda but that meeting will also include the newly elected board members. Susin has called this meeting BEFORE the new board members are sworn in.Now Susin wants the board to vote on a “Mutual Separation Agreement” that waives Rendell’s 90 days of notice, pays out his unused leave, keeps the district on the hook for his legal bills, and releases him from every claim, “known or unknown.” The Rocket has been told the document was largely copied from the agreement the board gave Mark Mullins when it fired him without cause, with the 20 weeks of severance removed. Mullins was fired. Rendell quit. He is getting the same protection.He is walking out with the Riviera Elementary death still under investigation, a state reporting inquiry into three district employees (including Gene Trent) still pending, no chief financial officer, a $100 million short-term loan, a $79 million budget cut, and 7 percent staffing cuts he ordered himself.If that sounds familiar, it should. In 2019, Rendell was at odds with the Indian River County School Board over district finances and his contract. He quietly lined up a job as a principal at Cocoa Beach without telling his board, and a loyal member tried to rush through his exit terms. That board said no. He left anyway.Same playbook. Gov. Ron DeSantis is planning another run for the White House in 2028, according to three sources who spoke with the Washington Post on Friday.The report comes days after Republicans took heavy losses in Tuesday's midterm elections. According to the Post, DeSantis, who is term-limited, has contacted at least one national political consultant about working on a new presidential campaign. His federal super PAC also sent a fundraising text this week, which some people who know him saw as a sign he intends to run.Sources told the Post that DeSantis sees an opening after voters rebuked President Trump in the midterms. A DeSantis adviser said the governor is expected to point to Florida as one of the few red states mostly untouched by Tuesday's blue wave.DeSantis has made several national media appearances since the election. On CNN, he said the ongoing Iran war, and the high oil and gas prices that followed, is a major problem for Republicans."The Republican mantra since Trump came on the scene was, we don't want to get in these open-ended conflicts, and that's what this has become," DeSantis said.
