95-Year-Old Man Dies After Driving Through Railroad Gate, Struck by Florida East Coast Train

An elderly man died from his injuries after his vehicle drove through the gate at a railroad crossing and was struck by a Florida East Coast Train.

The preliminary investigation revealed that on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at 1:23 PM, James Porter Dickenson, 95, of Spring Creek Lane Titusville, was driving a 2019 Hyundai east on Knox McRae Dr approaching the intersection of Hopkins Ave. He drove into the Railroad gates that had dropped down, while the red lights were flashing, and a southbound train was approaching the crossing. The train struck the vehicle on the driver’s side, spinning it violently. 

Dickenson died at the hospital following the crash.

This traffic crash fatality remains under investigation.
