Candidate for Brevard County Commission launches ‘hood’ campaign video

Dontavious Tay Smith aka ‘Duh Mayuh’ (NPA – Cocoa launched his official campaign video for his run for District 2 Brevard County Commissioner. Dontavious is a Non-partisan candidate who is currently the only opponent for Commissioner Bryan Lober (Republican-Rockledge).

In his video entitled “Hood Bred,” Smith takes a non-traditional approach to his campaign style. In the video that contains profanity, Smith is shirtless the entire time. It features him walking through his hood, showing footage of his community, while being narrated by himself about his background and experience. His social media accounts have roughly 8,000 followers combined.

He speaks about overcoming the adversity of coming up in the streets to graduating from Florida A&M University in Tallahassee. He talks about his run for Mayor of Cocoa at 23 years old with no money, and living on food stamps and “nearly winning.”

According to the Supervisor of Elections website, Smith filed his candidacy on August 6, 2021, and has raised a total of $205. Because he is not affiliated with a party, he does not have a primary election and will appear on the ballot in November 2022 if he meets the qualifying requirements.
