In today’s Brevard Public Schools Special Meeting, Chair Misty Belford made a motion to modify the County’s policy on the mask mandate in public schools.
Brevard Public Schools approves parental opt-out of masks; here’s how
The Brevard County School Board voted 3-2 in favor of changing its mask policy to allow parents a choice to opt-out their children out of the districtwide mandate. School Board Members Matt Susin and Kayte Campbell voted against the parental opt-out motion.
The change will only take effect when County’s cases drop to 50 per 100,000 countywide. It must also be approved by Brevard County Schools Superintendent Mark Mullins. Since the implementation of the mask policy, cases within the schools, which were originally higher than the County’s, are now below the infection rate of the County.
During the meeting, members of the public became so disruptive, Chair Misty Belford called a recess to the meeting and asked law enforcement to clear the room. The meeting shortly proceeded thereafter without any disruption.
