Today, Republican State Committeewoman Kim Adkinson (Melbourne Beach), filed paperwork to run for Brevard County Commissioner, District 3. The seat is currently held by Commissioner John Tobia who cannot run for reelection due to term limits.

Kim released the following press release:
My parents brought me to Brevard County when I was 8 years old. In the 46 years since, I’ve witnessed changes across the county, from Mims to Micco. I love where I live and I have decided it is time to serve its residents, my friends and my family.
I want to be a part of guiding Brevard’s future while truly considering the input from the people who call Brevard home. I will have a sensible perspective when dealing with regulations surrounding the health of our lagoon, the need for improved infrastructure, our amazing first responders and the future of Brevard’s children. At the same time, I intend to lead with a strong conservative approach to the budget on all of these issues.
I’m excited to represent the residents of District 3 and look forward to understanding their concerns and ensuring their voices are heard.

She is the second Republican to file for the seat, and will be facing West Melbourne City Councilman John Dittmore in the Republican Primary next August. District 3 consists of 36,004 Republicans, 27,908 Democrats, and 27,232 NPA’s.
Kim is a senior insurance professional with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from The Ohio State University. She was overwhelmingly elected as the Republican State Committeewoman in 2020 where she represents Brevard County on the leadership team of the Republican Party of Florida, and works along with other local party members towards Republicans winning elections in Breavrd.
Since her time in office, no Republican in Brevard County has lost a partisan election.
There are yet to be any Democrats or other party/nonparty candidates to run for the seat.
