Following the aftermath of Hurricane Milton, the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office has arrested John Burgos on multiple charges, including aggravated assault and animal cruelty.
The arrest took place after an altercation early in the morning of October 12, when Burgos, frustrated over the lack of restored electricity at his residence, fired his gun indoors. This act of violence resulted in the fatal shooting of his dog, Flick.
Burgos, who was reportedly drinking at the time of the incident, became enraged when Florida Power & Light (FPL) had yet to restore power to his home, leading him to fire his gun inside his house.
Burgos was arrested and now faces serious charges. The charges include:
• Shooting/Throwing a Missile into a Dwelling/Vehicle/Building/Aircraft – Aggravated Assault, for which he is being held without bond.
• Using a Firearm Under the Influence of Alcohol, carrying a $5,000 bond.
• Animal Cruelty, for the fatal shooting of his dog, with a $1,000 bond set.
The tragic death of Flick, his pet dog, adds to the severity of the charges against Burgos.
