According to the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office, a man was killed last night around 10pm when he was struck by a train while walking on the tracks.
First Brightline Train death in Vero last night, 4th this month
The unidentified man was walking north on the tracks near Vero Highlands, when he struck. The conductor sounded the horn to alert the man and tried but could not stop before striking him, officials said.
Within 2 hours, a replacement train arrived to the scene to transport the passengers onboard the train involved in the incident.
It took about 14 minutes to transfer all 61 passengers from one train to another. 10 minutes later, the original train continued its route to Orlando.
There’s been no information of why the man was on the track or if he intentionally was trying to be hit by the train.
This marks at least the 6th death since Brightline opened services from Orlando so south Florida.
