Details emerge from BCSO car chase of wrecked vehicle that resulted in guns drawn

According to dispatch logs from Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, at 5:50pm on Sunday, they received a call about a possible drunk driver who crashed and left the scene.

Several citizens called 911 as the vehicle drove south on I-95 with serious damage and the hood obstructing the view of the windshield.

The 2015 Kia which was being driven by 52-year-old Robert Velliquette of Satellite Beach was riding against the guard rail as a BCSO patrol vehicle was protecting traffic on I-95 by blocking it from entering back onto the roadway.

As the vehicle approached the on-ramp from Wickham Rd, patrol cars can be seen blocking the ramp not allowing any other civilian vehicles to enter the roadway.

Velliquette appeared to have both hands on the wheel and was looking back at the deputy who was following him while repeatedly hitting the guardrail. Eventually more patrol cars engaged and were able to box the vehicle in, bringing it to a stop. Officers then drew their weapons and approached the vehicle.

The record states that the driver had an IV in his arm and stated that it was his personal IV. He was then transported to Holmes Regional Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.

Court records show that Mr. Velliqutte has an extensive violent criminal and traffic history.
