District 2 Brevard County Commissioner Bryan Lober has proposed a new leave policy for Brevard County employees who contract Covid-19. Employees who have tested positive for COVID-19, and whose absence from work is in accordance with their following CDC guidance in effect at that time, will be eligible for up to eighty (80) hours of COVID administrative leave (or the equivalent of a two-week work schedule for employees not on a forty (40) hour schedule). But there’s a catch.
In order to qualify for the free leave, the employee must share their private health information with the County, and prove that they have received the Covid-19 vaccine. They must also share their documented health record showing a positive Covid-19 test. Any employee who fails to do so, will be charged their accrued or sick leave.
Commissioner Lober proposed the policy to County Manager Frank Abbate a week ago, and it will be considered on tomorrow evening’s agenda at the regularly scheduled County Commission meeting.
