Arrest made in Airport Vehicle Theft by Airport Employee

Melbourne, FL – A man identified as Troy Dinges has been arrested and charged with grand theft auto after allegedly stealing a 2007 Ford F-150 truck. The vehicle, reported stolen on January 10, 2025, by the airport and was recovered two days later with the assistance of local law enforcement and advanced surveillance technology.

According to those who know Troy, he’s a maintenance worker at the airport. Just a few days prior to this theft, it was reported that 3 masked individuals stole 3 rental car vehicles from the rental car lot at the Melbourne airport. They vehicles all had tracking technology in them and at least one arrest was made in that case.

Troy got caught when the Melbourne Police Department (MPD) received a hit confirmation from the F.L.O.C.K. camera system, which flagged the stolen truck. MPD officers conducted a traffic stop at Cherry and U.S. Highway 1, where the driver, later identified as Dinges, was apprehended.

According to BCSO, Dinges was in possession of a key capable of starting the stolen truck, along with several other keys belonging to the Melbourne Airport. After being detained on the scene, he was transported to the Melbourne Airport Police Department for booking.

Dinges was arrested in July of 2024 on charges of Felony Domestic Violence Battery by Strangulation, False Inprosonment, and in 2022 DUI w/Damage to Property or Person, Leaving the Scene of a Crash . Authorities have not yet disclosed additional details about the other keys in his possession or the potential security implications for the Melbourne Airport.
